OPINION:

Rufus Wainwright is the kind of artist who deserves much more exposure because their level of talent is worthy of more public. The attendance last night the audience barely reached 50% capacity which if it was somewhat unfair. The problem is that his name and music have not been fully disclosed in our country, as they have been some of his peers: Andrew Bird, Antony Hegarty, Fiona Apple, Jens Lekman or St. Vincent. However, Wainwright is a professional who can give the best of himself so for thousands of spectators and a handful of fans

Wainwright’s music is often typecast in this particular genre known as “baroque pop”. But the baroque pop is but music with orchestral arrangements songwriter: that is, no strings, brass, percussion and other instruments that are not usually part of a rock band. There is nothing inaccessible or marginal or incorporate elements that can alienate the average consumer … apart from the letter. But Wainwright usually writes songs about life, family, or pays tribute to her idols such as Judy Garland and Jeff Buckley.

half of the concert, Wainwright told us about a meeting he had with Jeff Buckley, a person before meeting him, Rufus “hated” because it gave the impression of being a cocky arrogant (and indeed, Buckley had a reputation for Diva). Rufus hated it so much that not even heard his version of “Hallelujah”. But that all changed when their paths crossed and struck up a conversation with the enigmatic singer, just a month before his tragic death in Memphis. At the end of the story, Wainwright performed “Memphis Skyline” followed by his own version of the song written by Leonard Cohen.

Wainwright

somehow ended up being identified as a “disciple” of Buckley, but our hero forged his own path. You could not help but admire the incredible range of her voice, the ease with which it handles on the stage and his mastery over the piano, a talent she inherited from her mother. In a way, we can better appreciate the performance of an artist when presented alone, without the support of any other musician. See the solemnity in “Going to a Town” or energy “Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk”.

While bands come, touch and go, other artists find it easy to break the fourth wall to interact with your audience, which always has its charm. Occasional errors are justified because he never saw himself as an artist who should entertain an hour and a half to an audience that paid for his ticket, but as a person who lives happily with his friends. For some are called “intimate” at these concerts.
