BlackBerry firm accuses familiar face of TV - latercera

overwhelmed smartphone maker BlackBerry Ltd . accused a company backed by Ryan Seacrest , host of program “American Idol” , illegally cloning technology.

The allegations surfaced in a demand for patent violation by BlackBerry in a federal court in San Francisco. The lawsuit focuses on a keyboard for iPhone manufactured by Type Products LLC, a venture co-founded by Los Angeles Seacrest and entrepreneur Laurence Hallier.

Lawsuit alleges Keyboard Type Products for new iPhone models illegally copying technology and designs developed BlackBerry year ago for its line of smartphones. BlackBerry seeks compensation for unspecified damages and a court prevent Type Products sells the keyboard without a licensing agreement.
