Slump in BlackBerry sales in Mexico - ALT1040

According to data released by Kantar World Panel on mobile device sales worldwide, BlackBerry sales in Mexico have plummeted in the last year, down 25%. This drop is significant because, in a year, BlackBerry has gone from being the best selling platform to take third place.

few hours ago, my colleague William told us that sales of Windows Phone devices Mexico had had the best quarter (May to July) in its history, was second best selling platform after Android. These sales data not only confirm that, bit by bit, Windows Phone has positioned itself as the third best selling mobile platform, evidently displacing BlackBerry which traditionally had been the best selling platform in Mexico and many other Latin American countries.

According to data released by Kantar World Panel, BlackBerry has lost 25% of its share of sales in the last year , a weight loss that, in general, has seen many markets. Specifically, 34.9% of sales terminals BlackBerry concentrated in 2012 in Mexico, currently the only Canadian company would concentrate 10% of the share of sales between May and July 2013.

class=”alignright”> go from being the best selling platform to take the third place, in just one year, is a blow

Obviously, Windows Phone is not the only cause of this change and Android has also increased its presence in Mexico with 60% of handsets sold in the last three months but, no doubt, is Cycle striking change being experienced in those territories traditionally dominated BlackBerry.

go from being the best selling platform to take the third place, in just one year, is a big blow . A change which implies that BlackBerry handsets are no longer “input device”, ie that offer the typical terminal operators at a good price and, instead, have positioned Android devices or good low-end terminals as Nokia Lumia 520. It is a radical change in sales, but so is the consumption habits of the users of Mexico and, in my opinion, is something we also see in other Latin American countries (especially when the ecosystem to diversify a bit more with the OS Firefox extension).

BlackBerry Q5 - BlackBerry sales in Mexico

If we look at the data, it is obvious that BlackBerry is losing ground in the world and it is gaining ground as Android and Windows Phone (as in the case of Mexico), a sign showing something that has been talked about for some time: BB10 strategy is not working and the new handsets from the company never quite convince users (although they are good).

class=”alignleft”> BlackBerry loses ground in Latin America, one of the great bastions

BlackBerry has launched multiple devices so far this year but, in practical terms, go completely unnoticed for users and it appears that operators are not the work of empowering them. If BlackBerry always regarded Latin America as one of the great bastions, we see how, little by little, their stronghold is being divided to make way for Windows Phone and Android (in a fall, in my opinion, will be difficult to recover) .

And how will the picture then? According to the data, it seems that in Mexico the sales of Android devices work very well and, perhaps, could be placed as a priority platform followed by Windows Phone . However, this market is very changeable and, as you commented our friend Eduardo Marin, 5C iPhone can be a great opportunity in Latin America and certainly can make the sales distribution changed again.
