BlackBerry chief predicts the death of the tablets in five years - The Trade

“In five years I do not think there’s any reason to have a tablet”. This was stated by CEO of the Canadian company BlackBerry, Thorsten Heins. “Maybe a big screen in the workspace, but not a tablet as we know it,” said Heins.

In an interview with Bloomberg, the executive also stated that “the tablets are not a good business model” by which insisted that the fashion of this popular product, created in 2010 from the Apple iPad, will not prosper beyond 2018.

Elpais.es recalls, Blackberry Playbook commercialized but had a cold reception from users who opted for the iPad and tablets running Android. In one quarter, BlackBerry just sold 150 thousand units and discount. This caused losses of about $ 500 million.

Meanwhile, Heins predicted that its BlackBerry smartphone back to the top. “In five years I see BlackBerry as a leader in mobile computing (…) I want to gain as much market share as possible, but not being a copycat,” he said.

FACT : BlackBerry launched two new phones this year with the renewed BB10 operating system: the BlackBerry BlackBerry Z10 and Q10, the latter with physical keyboard.
