Taiwanese Hon Hai, a leading manufacturer of iPhones and iPads for Apple, which employs more than one million workers in China and other parts of the world, today announced a partnership with BlackBerry.
FIH Mobile Ltd., a subsidiary of Hon Hai, signed a five-year cooperation with BlackBerry to develop and manufacture mobile phones aimed at emerging markets such as Mexico and Indonesia markets, the company said today in a press release.
Cooperation “strengthen the competitiveness of Blackberry smartphones, expanding its presence in established and emerging markets,” said Hon Hai.
This cooperation seeks not only to enter the Indonesian market, rapidly expanding and where Hon Hai already has a presence, but also of Mexico, the statement added.
The partnership between the manufacturing and Blackberry Hon Hai is “a milestone in global industrial technology” given the potential for cooperation in investment and markets, according to the Taiwanese company.
BlackBerry is facing a sharp drop in its global market share has increased from 4% in 2013 to 2% in the third quarter of 2014 and sales have declined by 56% yoy in the last two months.
Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn, is the largest global manufacturer of electronic products in the world.
