(Reuters) – The maker of BlackBerry smartphones has cut dozens of jobs in its sales in the United States on Monday, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter.
successive layoffs are part of job cuts that have been underway for several weeks, the sources told the newspaper.
“I can confirm that a small number of employees were laid off today,” said a company spokesperson to the newspaper, without giving further details.
BlackBerry, which has lost market share to rivals like Apple’s iPhone and phones using Google’s Android technology, said last month it was considering its options, which could include an immediate sale.
Canadian technology blog Cantech Letter was the first to report on the layoffs.
Reuters could not immediately with BlackBerry for comments, when published the news out of the U.S. business hours.
