lost U.S. $ 4,400 million in the third quarter after taking income during the period of only 1,200 million, 56% less than the same period last year.
In the previous quarter, BlackBerry lost nearly 1,000 million.
The results are worse than expected by analysts and added to the problems that dragged the company that invented the concept of “smartphones” but recent years has been decimated by the Apple iPhone and Google Android phones.
Despite the losses, the new BlackBerry CEO, John Chen, transmitted a positive message and said that next year the results of the company will improve.
“With the operational and organizational changes we have announced, BlackBerry has set a clear roadmap that will allow us to return the target better financial performance of the next year, “Chen said in a statement.
BlackBerry said 40% of their income in the third quarter came from sales of handsets, 53 % service and 7% for software and other revenue.
The company also said it has 3,200 million in cash, cash equivalents and investments in the short and long term.
Chen said that “the company is financially strong, has a portfolio of comprehensive, reliable products, talented employees and a new leadership team dedicated to implementing our new roadmap.”
BlackBerry also announced that it has entered into a “strategic partnership” with five Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn, the world’s largest manufacturer of electronic products, to develop and produce new phones. EFE
