Hey, former employees of BlackBerry! Another manufacturer of smartphones with fruit name wants you to know it’s there for you. Apple used LinkedIn messages to employees BlackBerry invite to an event on September 26 near the BlackBerry headquarters in Waterloo, Ontario, reported Financial Post.
Apple said most were offered positions to its headquarters in Cupertino, California, but the company provide relocation and immigration assistance.
BlackBerry
announced plans last month to the dismissal of 40% of its workforce worldwide for her year end. The first round of cuts began last week, laying off 300 employees.
But Apple is not the only company employees fishing between BlackBerry. Just two days after that event, the Financial Post, Intel held its own “briefing” at a nearby hotel. BlackBerry employees received email invitations to the event by Intel, according to the newspaper.
BlackBerryformer employees were not working at Apple or Intel does not have to travel so far from the Kitchener-Waterloo area for new job positions. The region has long been a hotbed for engineering technology, in part thanks to the University of Waterloo. The city is home to major technology firms including OpenText and Desire2Learn, and Communitech startups accelerator has helped the area has a reputation for one of the best cities for startups in the world.
Last month, Google announced it would open an office in Waterloo Motorola Mobility. Google already employs 250 people at its office in Waterloo, where workers focus on mobile and social work and enjoy a great slide into the office (which can only enjoy them). Communitech Google also picked as one of seven U.S. hubs to form the network “Tech Entrepreneurs Hub”.
Also in September, Square payment, a company created by Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, announced it will open an office in Kitchener-Waterloo in 2014.
