BlackBerry smartphone maker slashed dozens of jobs in its sales in the United States on Monday, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The layoffs are part of successive job cuts of work that have been underway for several weeks, the sources told the newspaper.
“I can confirm that a small number of employees were laid off today,” said a company spokesperson to the newspaper, without giving further details.
BlackBerry, which has lost market share to rivals such as the Apple iPhone and phones using Google’s Android technology, said last month it was considering its options, which could include an immediate sale.
Canadian technology blog Cantech Letter was the first to report on the layoffs.
Reuters could not immediately to BlackBerry for comments, when published the news out of the U.S. business hours.
