The fall of a giant: BlackBerry officially looking for a buyer - Engadget

Blackberry class=”centro”/>

BlackBerry has just announced the formation of a “special committee” to study the possible sale of the company or any of its divisions. The committee will be responsible for evaluating the possibility of “strategic alternatives” to improve the current situation of the company and its mobile operating system BlackBerry 10.

Among the options the Canadian manufacturer mentioned in the official press release are those of “alliances, strategic partnerships” and even “the sale of the company.” In recent months, numerous rumors have emerged that pointed in this direction, especially after checking that BlackBerry 10 is not having the desired drive and Windows Phone has already surpassed BB 10 market share worldwide.

As the company indicated in the press release, the formation of this committee does not imply that some kind of operation would occur in the coming weeks. Presumably, if Thorsten Heins, CEO , and the rest of the team can not find a deal that meets the needs of the company BlackBerry will remain as is. That is, in no man’s land.

stock market quote has been suspended after the publication of official statement. After months of rumors the former RIM is on sale and is soon to be produced exciting news about its future in the short term. We look also to see how this affects BB 10 , which was the big bet of the company for the next few years. Maybe some manufacturer decides to invest in the mobile operating system, but the memory of Palm and webOS is not very positive in this regard.
